"Our dearest Kelley passed early this morning, peacefully at home. He returned home last Wednesday, so very happy to be out of the hospital and back home. Marguerite was by his side, as she has been from the beginning. The family asks for solitude and will announce a memorial to celebrate Kelley at a later date. In lieu of flowers, an account will be set up at the Western St. branch of Washington Mutual to raise funds for a bench in a Sonoma County park. Peace and much love to Kelley's immediate family and wide group of friends and fellow artists. Your caring thoughts and words sustained Kelley throughout his illness." (from his caring bridge page)

Kelley was a gentleman, progenitor and innovator to event posters as an art form and a consummate artist. Had one of the best 4 hours of my life listening to his and Wavy Gravy's war stories while we signed a huge stack of Seva Foundation 25th anniversary concert posters that Kelley and I had worked on.

Happy trails Kelley and thanks for paving the way for all of us young upstarts.

Well, here the Haight Street Fair is in 2007 with a small minority of squeky wheels making some noise about our fair.

In Pablo's passing a two year old group has increased their demands on us. Some folks from the Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council (H.A.N.C.) have heard gossip of their intentions of either trying to take over the fair or force us under their control.

Members of the Haight Street Fair Board have sat in a few meetings with HAIA, CVIA HANC (the real group that represents the neighborhood, without having to say it) and a couple of other groups that are out of the haight village or have one member Impovement Group status.

Supivisor Ross, District 5; has hosted a few meetings for us. He has been helpful in trying to create some fair ground for everyone. With all of his efforts we are still in conflict with a group that does not act in good faith towards us.

In one meeting that Ross called in city hall a member of the HAIA, Michael O'Connor (Whom is a third owner of the nightclub, THE INDEPENDENT; on Divisidaro St) spoke out strongly against the Haight Street Fair. Thanks Michael O'Conner!

We went into our ISCOTT hearing last Thursday and the president Mr. Lee put a hold on our street closure permit hearing for two weeks.

Please spread this information out!

The attack on street fairs is an increase of killing SF culture.............I love my urban city very much............and do take seriously that WE here in SF are in the middle of a culture war right now.

Brad and the How Weird Street Fair got their permits after being rejected. But with huge new demands, their time was cut from 8pm to 6pm, and Brad cannot have his fair there in 2008!

To show some support you can come down to our hearing on:

THURSDAY MARCH 22ND @ 10am SHARP!

When I did DMT for the first time, I was stuck by the similarity of the experience to published accounts of near-death experiences. I didn't see elves or creatures, as others have reported; rather my consciousness hurtled from my skull into space at warp speed, bursting open multiple doors through which layered the stacked universe. I felt consciousness itself, and understood what intelligence is. I *felt* intelligence. I am always intrigued by the individuality of DMT experiences, and from the five people I have known personally who have done DMT, each experience was wildly different from the others. I hope that somewhere, someone is documenting these experiences, because my hunch is that they would fall into a pattern that reveals something about human personality types.

Today is the 100th birthday of Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who discovered LSD in 1943.

This milestone birthday is being celebrated in Switzerland with a conference on entheogens to be held this weekend. Information on the conference is posted at http://www.lsd.info.

The New York Times recently did a story on Hofmann and that is posted at http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/07/international/europe/07hoffman.html?pagewanted=1

Hofmann wrote a book titled "LSD: My Problem Child" and cautions against reckless ingestion, but also believes that the compound holds keys that can potentially help humanity recognize its relationship to the biosphere. To that end, he regularly signs art prints to raise money for groups like MAPS (the Multidisciplinary Association fo Psychedelic Studies), Erowid and the Island Foundation.

Happy Birthday Uncle Albert!

Obviously there were those blotters of yesteryear that will be held near and dear. The white perf paper, ferinstance... always a favorite. But no one could accuse it of being "blotter art." So what are your favorite pieces of blotter art?

My favorite vintage ones were the Gooney Birds and Album Covers, but the Gorbys and the Hofmann "Father of LSD" ones that are on blotterbarn.com are also great.

There's no arguing that the Alice Through the Looking Glass and Mad Hatters that Mark produced are top shelf.

As for vanity prints, the Mind States one is great. And I'm partial to our new Mouse "Need A New Brain" blotter, but that's because I came up with the idea to produce it.

Anyone else wanna chime in with favorites?

it's a very thorough version of the story. we'll leave it up to mark to point out any inaccuracies in the reporting. and perhaps i'll get around to transcribing and posting the interview i did with mark last fall and post that on this tribe as well...

Blotter Art is a medium that has been growing in popularity for a number of years. There are numerous sites online that are devoted to buying, selling, and trading blotter art and a handful of articles devoted to promoting this art medium.

The term Blotterati was coined by the High Chief of Blotterati, Mark McCloud. Mark's work can be viewed at http://www.blotterbarn.com.

People collect blotter art for a wide range of reasons. It is the stamp collection of the turned on set. There are four primary blotter art categories -- vintage prints, signed prints, reprints and vanity prints. Each of these categories has its fans and detractors. I myself don't discriminate so long as the people who buy the prints know what they are buying and the people who sell the prints are up front about what they are selling.

Despite my Kool-Aid joke in the header, I would caution against people making reckless remarks about buying or selling psychedelics. Blotter art is what the paper is called when it is sold undipped. A felony is what the paper is called when it is sold dipped. So let's all just do our best to keep each other from running too far afoul of the law, OK?
